Blog 12 final thoughts

I really enjoyed this class. I feel that the things I have learned are already making me a better film maker. Most of the information we learned this year was a recap of things I already knew. However, it was great getting the experience of working in several films throughout the year and taking head knowledge and trying to apply it to a practical situation. I thought at first that I would not enjoy working in groups, and it does have it's challenges, but it was really fun to work with class mates and get to know the people I will be going through the program with. I hope that I get to take many more classes with some of them, and look forward to seeing future thigs made. I also really enjoyed having you as a teacher. Which is why I signed up for another class you are teaching in the fall. See you then!

Blog 11 wild card position

I am DP for those wildcard assignment! I could not be happier about this!  I love being behind the camera and planning out how to capture a moment the best way possible. I have been waiting all year for my shot at DP, and was so happy when it happened to be for the wild card project. We have an interesting story planned that will be a fun challange to shoot. I know because of time constraints and finals that it will not be as good as I want, but I hope it is still an excellent student film and that it conveys story information in a cool new way. I am a huge fan of dynamic shots. You will see a lot of moving shots in any film that in apart of. I really wish we had a dolly, but I will make due with what ever I can come up with. I look forward to the finished product and to everyone's responses upon viewing it.

Blog 10 editing 3b

I honestly did not really enjoy this experience. In not a huge fan of experimental film, and I found it hard to get any creative direction for this project. The lack of rules and parameters can sometimes make it harder to be creative. That being said, I really likes the way out project turned out. I really likes the sound scape that Sam made and felt like it went with our footage really well. I was not a huge fan of the sound scape I made, but it flowed ok with the images. Not as good as our other made by Sam though.this project has tought ne a lot about sound design. It is a crucial part to any project and something I ogle I can bring with excellence into my future projects.

Blog 8 masters shot

The master shot sequence was one of the funniest shoots of my life. My team had been incredibly fun to work with and very good. I am director for this project and have really enjoyed it! I love cinematography and have always preferred to be DP. However, after directing I think that it is a very fun role. You really get to have a substantial say in all aspects of the shoot. From shot placement and set up to actually managing and directing actors. I love all if it. We had one girl from theater come and be in our film and she was great. It's much easier to work with actors and acreses than just friends who are non actors. Overal all one of my favorite experiences in college.

Blog 7 pre visualization materials

I have known for some time now how important pre production materials are. I have up to this point only taken the time to do a few storyboards here and there. However, doing all the pre vis materials for the master shot sequence has been great. I really have learned the importance of having these when you shot, and how helpful they are in developing a overal structure for your film idea. Having an idea is one thing, but when you take the time to plan out your idea a see what is possible the idea takes on a life of its own and becomes something more. It was more challenging than I anticipated to try and think through all the shots for the bran and park. I think it's cool looking back to see how done shots worked and others had to be replaced. Overal all I found that this assignment has tought me one of the most important skills I will ever learn as a film maker and I'm glad to have learned it.

Visions paper

The visions conference was really awesome! I thought everyone involved did an excellent job of puttin it on. I knew it was well done when I went to pick up my badge that I ordered online and they had everything very organized and professional. I had a hectic schedule Friday. I had classes and work during most blocks, but I was able to go to one of the conference block in between my classes.  It was really interesting to hear student from different schools talk about papers they had written. The first two guys talked about the French film irreversible. I decided that I will not be seeing that movie. It look really messed up. However, it was interesting how they film maker used devices used by othe experimental film makers. I can't remember what movie the girl talked about, but she did a great job presenting. She compared two films and how the children in them were forced to have pretend worlds to escape the pain of reality. The movies looked interesting. I wish I could have seen one of the film blocks! I asked my friends about them and they said they were all great. Except some weird panda film. Overall I would rate the conference a huge success and in glad the school does it!

Sound recording blog 9

"If we spoke with our ears, and listened through our mouth, then a kiss might be the most romantic sound in the world." Jared Kintz
Sound is all around us. It envelopes us, and no matter how hard we try we can not hid from it. I recently had the pleasure of recording a sound library with my group. I have done a decent amount of sound recording in my life, but I'm always amazed at how different the world feels when your listening. I noticed every little sound. Sounds I had never noticed, became beautiful works of art. I really enjoyed the experience. Walking around campus with somewhat super human hearing was awesome. I could hear distant conversations and birds chirping as if they were right by my ear. It was also interesting getting a list of sounds together with my group. A whole creative mashup was made, and I look forward to is organizing it into a work of art.
